1 killed, 31 others hurt in Tuba, Benguet bus crash

The driver of a bus died and 31 others were hurt when the said vehicle rammed through boulders at a village in Tuba, Benguet, Senior Supt. Moro Lazo, the province's police director told radio dzBB on Sunday. Lazo identified the fatality as Jose Emmanuel Roxas of Legazpi City. Lazo said the bus, with plate no. SHE-579, registered under the Bicol University, was on its way down from Baguio City to La Union province via Marcos Highway, when its brake malfunctioned. He said the driver stopped the vehicle through bumping its right side to a mass of rock on the mountainous side of the road. Lazo said Roxas, the driver-reliever, suffered the most, and was declared dead on arrival at the Baguio General Hospital. Thirty one of those who were hurt from the incident, mostly college students, were "declared out of danger" by the hospital, according to Lazo.
