Six victims were killed in Samar after a former soldier ran amok and went on a shooting spree in Calbayog City, according to Marisol Abdurahman's report on "24 Oras." The suspect himself ended up dead after fighting it out with responding police officers.

Resident Florencia Saldana was found screaming and running away from the crime scene after her children and other relatives were shot by Glen Balunan.

When their neighbors rushed to the victims' home, they found the victims bleeding on the floor. They were brought to the hospital on board tricycles.

Two of the six fatalities were Saldana's children, Carlo and Gary. Police authorities said the victims were each shot once but fatally.

According to the Provincial Director of the Samar Philippine National Police, the suspect went around their neighborhood looking for victims. It was not immediately known what type of firearm the suspect used.

"Kailangan niya pang umikot halos doon sa purok nila para maghanap ng mabibiktima niya. From their house, una niyang nabungaran 'yung apat. Tapos naglakad siya, may binaril ulit dalawa," Colonel Andre Dizon said.

Balunan, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, shot eight individuals in total. The two survivors are still confined in a hospital.

"Paglakad pa niya ulit sa susunod na kanto, may isa. Sa susunod na kanto, isa pa ulit. Sa susunod, isa pa. So marami po siyang nilakaran na kung sinong makita niya," he added.

Dizon further said that the suspect was considered a "troublemaker."

"May incident diyan na nanaga siya ma'am at nu'ng walang inabutan na tao, pinagtataga niya mga sasakyan at mga tricycle. Ang record niya sa barangay is a troublemaker," he said.

Police operatives responded to the emergency but instead of surrendering, the suspect shot at the officers, who fired back and killed him.

Authorities are still determining the motive. -MDM, GMA News
