More medical personnel deployed to Cebu City —Duque

More medical personnel have been sent to augment the staff at hospitals in Cebu City against the COVID-19 threat, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said Wednesday.

In a press conference, Duque said five medical doctors have been deployed to Cebu City, while 22 more have volunteered to help out in Cebu City hospitals.

“I am grateful indeed to the alternative doctors who have expressed their desires to serve in Cebu City,” Duque said.

These volunteers came from the Philippine Society of Medical Specialists in Government Service.

Around 270 nurses and 40 doctors were designated in 19 government hospitals and 21 infirmaries in Cebu City, coming from the Department of Health Region 7.

Aside from them, Duque said, nine doctors, nine nurses and 11 medics from the Armed Forces of the Philippines also volunteered to help Cebu City patients.

To improve the COVID-19 situation, Duque pointed out that public health intervention should be in place.

He reiterated that health measures, contact tracing, testing and isolation of cases are the keys to control the spread of COVID-19.

Duque also noted that the information in connection with COVID-19 cases should be validated first before releasing it to the public. — BM, GMA News
