19-year-old stranded person dies on way home to Jolo — Zamboanga City Mayor Climaco
A 19-year-old locally stranded individual (LSI) died at a pension house in Zamboanga City while on his way home to Jolo, Mayor Beng Climaco said in a Facebook post on Monday.
According to Climaco, the stranded person died on Saturday due to a heart attack. The Zamboanga mayor said his father told them that the 19-year-old had a history of heart disease.
“The City Government of Zamboanga condoles with the family of the locally stranded individual (LSI) from Jolo who expired due to heart attack at a local pension house Saturday night,” she said.
“The unfortunate incident happened while the 19-year old male LSI was in transit to Jolo, his end destination. He arrived in Zamboanga City on June 29,” she added.
Climaco noted that based on protocols, LSIs and returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are in transit or passing through the city shall be taken care of by their respective local government units.
“In this case, the LSI was profiled, assessed and brought to the pension house, along with other Jolo-bound residents by the BARMM-DSWD representative while waiting for the travel arrangement to bring them home,” Climaco said.
Due to the enhanced community quarantine in light of the COVID-19 threat, travel was prohibited in concerned areas.
Stranded people and returning OFWs were finally allowed to return to their hometowns when the quarantine restrictions were relaxed to general community quarantine. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
