Rescued Philippine eagle released back into Mount Apo
KIDAPAWAN CITY —Environment and local government officials on Tuesday released into the wild the three-year-old Philippine eagle that farmers had rescued in June this year.
“Makilala Hiraya" is now back to its habitat in the Mount Apo area after personnel from the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) in Davao City completed the treatment of the wounded bird.
Environment officials derived the eagle’s name “Makilala Hiraya” from the place where it was rescued.
On June 8, farmers Artemio Henilo, Joefrey Booc, and Joel Arumbo –residents of Purok-3A, Barangay Batasan in Makilala –saw the injured eagle fell from the tree.
“It can’t stand straight because of the wounds it sustained from the attack of at least 20 crows,” the farmers were quoted as saying.
Then, the Makilala LGU brought the wounded eagle to the PEF for treatment.
After completing Hiraya’s treatment, the PEF returned the eagle to the Makilala LGU.
On July 28, at about 10 a.m., and in celebration of the World Nature Foundation Day, officials from PEF, Energy Development Corporation, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12, Makilala LGU officials, and officials from Barangay Batasan, released Hiraya back to its natural habitat. —LBG, GMA News
