NPA squad leader surrenders in Zamboanga del Sur —Army

A squad leader of the New People's Army (NPA) surrendered to the military in Zamboanga del Sur on Saturday, the Philippine Army's Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) said.

The 29-year-old NPA squad leader was identified as Marino Daano Anlas, a.k.a. Victor/IP Man, a resident of Barangay Bagumbayan, Sergio Osmeña in Zamboanga del Norte.

Brigadier General Leonel Nicolas, 102nd Infantry Brigade commander, said Anlas was the leader of the 1st squad operating in Zamboanga Peninsula.

WestMinCom commander Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan Jr. said the surrender was done through the efforts of the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan headed by Major General Generoso Ponio.

Anlas said he surrendered due to hardships he had to endure and the NPA's failed promises, Ponio said. —KG, GMA News
