Bicol Region death toll from Rolly stands at 19


The death toll in the Bicol Region from Super Typhoon Rolly stood at 19 on Tuesday, the Office of Civil Defense V (OCD) has reported.

The OCD on Monday reported that the death toll in the region due to the onslaught of the cyclone had risen to 20. On Tuesday night, it said the initial report of four casualties in Virac turned out to be only three.

The death reported in Polangui, Albay was omitted because there was no official report received from the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

The casualty from Camaligan brought the total to 19.

In its 9 p.m. report, the OCD said 13 of the victims were from Albay (Daraga, 1; Guinobatan, 7; Malinao, 3; Tabaco City, 2), five from Catanduanes (Gigmoto, 1; Virac, 3; San Miguel, 1), and one from Camaligan, Camarines Sur.

Meanwhile, a total of 69 individuals were injured due to the typhoon.

The OCD said 102,682 families or 359,690 persons were displaced by Rolly.

Of this number, at least 75,004 families are taking shelter in evacuation centers, while 27,678 families are outside evacuation centers.

The OCD also said that 30,384 houses in the region were totally damaged and 79,160 were partially damaged.

The Department of Agriculture in Region 5 reported over P1.18 billion in losses after more than 17,000 hectares of agricultural areas were hit by the typhoon.

The Department of Public Works and Highways reported that the cost of damage to infrastructure reached more than P4.6 billion and this included national roads, bridges, and flood control. -BAP/NB, GMA News
