20 dead, 394 injured due to Rolly in Bicol Region


The number of deaths due to Super Typhoon Rolly in the Bicol Region has climbed to 20, the Office of the Civil Defense Region V said in a report released Friday.

Citing the Department of Health Region 5 and the local disaster risk reduction and management offices, the report said 13 victims were from Albay, six were from Catanduanes, and one was from Camarines Sur.

The victims were identified as:

Meanwhile, five individuals were said to be missing, of which three were from Albay, one was from Catanduanes, one from San Miguel.

These were identified as Elvie Cervantes Manrique, Michaela Cervantes Manrique, and Manny Bilando in Guinobatan, Albay. There are no details on the two other missing individuals.

Of the 394 individuals injured due to Rolly, one was from Camarines Sur, one was from Sorsogon, 11 were from Albay, 290 were from Catanduanes, and 91 were from Camarines Sur.

Displaced individuals

Based on data from the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Region 5, a total of 29,106 families or 111,846 persons were displaced due to Rolly.

Among the figure, 21,580 families or 85,576 persons are inside evacuation centers while 7,526 families or 26,270 persons are outside centers.

Damages

Meanwhile, a total of 127,691 houses were damaged by the storm. Of this, 100,896 were partially damaged while 20,818 were totally destroyed.

Authorities have also estimated the cost of damages at P12,712,026,492 while agricultural damage in the region was estimated at P3,658,773,499.

The Office of the Civil Defense said that initial data from the Department of Public Works and Highways Region 5 showed that national roads and bridges have infrastructure damage cost of about P4,621,348,885, flood control was pegged at P1,875,600,000, while other buildings and infrastructure cost P1,731,706,500 infrastructure damage.

The total cost of assistance in the Bicol Region was recorded at P31,676,129. -- BAP, GMA News
