Quezon ready for Tropical Storm Ulysses —PDRRMO
The provincial government of Quezon has already made its preparations in anticipation of Tropical Storm Ulysses.
Interviewed on Balitanghali on Tuesday, Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Dr. Melchor Avenilla Jr. said the provincial government held a meeting on Tuesday morning with concerned agencies in preparation for Ulysses.
“So far, naka-prepare and lalawigan ng Quezon for this tropical storm,” Avenilla said.
He said the provincial government already prepositioned relief goods in case a preemptive evacuation will be done.
He also urged residents to prepare their emergency go-bags.
Although he admitted that physical distancing would be a challenge amid the COVID-19 crisis, Avenilla said local authorities will ensure that residents will strictly observe minimum health standards.
About 24,000 residents from Quezon have been affected by Super Typhoon Rolly last week.
As of Tuesday noon, the southern portion of Quezon is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1.
PAGASA said Ulysses, which is expected to intensify into severe tropical storm on Tuesday night, is likely to make landfall over Quezon on Thursday morning.
By Wednesday morning, it is expected to reach typhoon category. --Ma. Angelica Garcia/KBK, GMA News
