Baguio night market resumes operations with stricter rules vs. COVID-19

The Baguio City government has ordered the resumption of its night market operations on Friday with stricter health measures in place.

According to Jasmin Galban’s report on “24 Oras,” only 350 stalls this time were allowed to operate after lapses in crowd control happened last week which resulted in the night market’s closure.

Baguio City administrator Bonifacio de la Peña said there would be a rotation of vendors daily in order for more sellers could participate.

The night market will be open from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

“We will be putting protocols in place, ‘yong measures, interventions, to ensure ‘yong smooth flow ng mga tao. ‘Yong foot traffic and of course, we will limit ‘yong people inside. So we will be manning ‘yong mga entrances natin,” Baguio City Police Office director Police Colonel Allen Co said.

On December 2, Mayor Benjamin Magalong suspended the operation of the night market, which reopened on December 1, due to apparent lapses in crowd control.

The resumption of the night market’s operation is part of the city government’s effort to reopen the economy amid the COVID-19 pandemic. -NB, GMA News
