Kidnapped Taiwanese rescued in Cavite; 2 Chinese suspects nabbed

Two Chinese nationals were arrested by authorities on New Year's Eve for supposedly taking hostage a Taiwanese national in exchange of ransom money in Imus, Cavite.

According to the Philippine National Police-Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG), operatives conducted the rescue operation after receiving complaint from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO).

PNP-AKG said the Taiwanese victim, Chen Yen Shau, was kidnapped on December 29, 2020 at about 1 p.m. in Parañaque City by a group of Chinese men who fetched him and demanded ransom money of P9 million.

The victim was able to contact his mother through Facebook informing her that he had been detained and was beaten badly by his abductors.

The victim further said he owed an amount to his boss, and ransom money was asked for in exchange of his immediate release.

The PNP-AKG Luzon Field Unit (LFU) first went to Pearl Marina Tower, Pacific Avenue in Parañaque City but failed to find the victim.

Authorities then proceeded to Imus, where they found the victim heavily guarded by two suspects, namely Lu Cheng and Xie Long Hui.

The victim positively identified one of the suspects as his abductors, who was also allegedly responsible for dark bruises he sustained from torture.

Suspects have been detained at AKG lockup jail for investigation, documentation and filing of appropriate charges in court. —Jamil Santos/KBK, GMA News
