2 dead, 4 missing amid Bicol Region flooding
Two people died while four others were reported missing on Saturday amid the flooding in the Bicol Region caused by the tail-end of a frontal system, the Office of Civil Defense Region V said in its latest report.
Citing the Sorsogon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the OCD said that the latest fatality was a 28-year-old who was carried off in a Pilar, Sorsogon flood.
On Friday, a three-year-old was reported to have drowned after his boat capsized in Canaman, Camarines Sur.
The report said both fatalities were up for verification by the MDM Cluster led by the Department of the Interior and Local Government Regional Office 5.
Meanwhile, two more individuals were reported as missing.
One of the missing persons was from Garchitorena, Camarines Sur. The report said the unidentified individual may have drowned in the Ason River on December 31.
The other missing individual was is a 13-year-old boy.
Search and rescue operations are on-going for both.
Two individuals were earlier reported to be missing after their boats capsized on New Year’s Eve. This brings the total number of missing individuals to four.
The inclement conditions also displaced 40 families or 138 persons across the Bicol Region.
The report said that there were 106 flooding incidents in 26 municipalities and three cities. Twenty-four landslide incidents in 15 municipalities and two cities were also reported
PAGASA on Saturday afternoon said that a low-pressure area and the frontal system would bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Bicol Region and eight other areas across the country. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
