Municipal councilor shot dead in Samar —police

A municipal councilor was killed in a shooting incident in Barangay Laygayon, Pinabacdao, Samar on Monday morning, police said.

Information from the Police Regional Office VIII identified the victim as Samuel Lagario, 50.

Initial investigation indicated that Lagario was on his motorcycle with councilor Robert Balundo when he was shot by unidentified suspects who were in a private vehicle.

Lagario and Balundo were supposed to attend a session, authorities said.

Police said Balundo, who was ordered by the perpetrators to get off the motorcycle, was unharmed.

The police are currently in "hot pursuit" of the suspects. — BM, GMA News
