Ex-vice mayor, companion survive Cavite ambush

A former vice mayor of Dasmarinas, Cavite and his companion were hurt when four unidentified men shot the two last Sunday afternoon, GMA's 24-Oras reported on Monday. Former vice mayor Victor Carungcong sustained gunshot wounds in his hands and thighs, while his companion, Romy Ong, who was reportedly in critical condition, was shot in the back and side of his body. The report said the incident happened when Carungcong and Ong, on board a Honda CRV, were on their way to barangay (village) Dionisio to attend a baptism. The suspected gunmen reportedly rode a multi-cab. Despite the injuries he sustained, Carungcong was able to drive himself and Ong to a nearby hospital. "Ang tatay ko po nakapagdrive papunta dito, pinilit niya pa eh na makapagmaneho papunta dito dahil yung kasama niya malubha (My father was able to drive despite his injuries to help Ong who was critically wounded)" said Cynthia Espinosa, daughter of Carungcong. She said it was not the first time that her father was ambushed. "Dati po kasi tinambangan na rin siya e. Dun sa sasakyan niya, pinaayos nga lang iyan (He was ambushed before while he was having his car fixed)." In another report, a former village chief of Kanluran in Rosario, Cavite died after an unidentified man shot him. Authorities identified the fatality as Ronaldo Bulda, who was on board a tricycle Saturday night when the incident happened. - A. Legaspi, GMANews.TV
