Displaced Taal residents hope to return to their homes due to livelihoods

Some residents ofTaal Volcano Island who were displaced by the recent volcanic activity want to return to their homes within the permanent danger zone to attend to their livelihoods.

According to Chino Gaston’s report on “24 Oras” on Wednesday, Donato Orso said he is worried about their lack of housing as well.

“Sa ngayon, wala pa po kaming alam kung saan kami dadalhin, kung saan po kami itatapon, kung saang lugar kami ilalagay, kung saan kami isisiksik,” Orso said.

“Hindi ho kami papabalikin sa lupang aming pinanggalingan, kung saan kami naninirahan,” he added.

Meanwhile, Belen Cacao said their main livelihood is fishing and their fish cages are located a few meters away from the island’s shores.

Orso and Cacao were among the residents evacuated on Tuesday after seismic activities were recorded in the volcano.

They joined the over 200 families in the staying in the evacuation center following the volcano’s phreatic eruption last year.

Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1 on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology director Renato Solidum said.

Sixty-nine tremor tremor activities were also recorded in the past 24 hours, he added. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
