More than 31,000 families were affected by flooding in the province of Surigao del Sur due to Tropical Storm Auring.
According to Jandi Esteban’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday, several towns are still submerged in flood.
The Department of Public Works and Highways already conducted clearing operations in Tandag City.
The local government also distributed food assistance among the affected residents which are now staying in evacuation centers.
Meanwhile, the provincial government is worried that its funds are not enough for rehabilitation.
“Pero sigurado ako kukulangin dahil ‘yong iba diyan ginagamit sa COVID, sa mga frontliners natin at tsaka sa pambili ng mga gamot,” Surigao del Sur Governor Ayec Pimentel said.
Tandag Mayor Rozanne Pimentel estimated that the damage to agriculture might reach P60 million.
“’Yong mga farmers natin ‘yon ang mostly affected na sector ngayon,” she said.
Earlier, PAGASA downgraded Auring into a low pressure area.
