Church leader killed by 2 gunmen in Leyte ambush

A pastor of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) was killed in an ambush last Wednesday in Leyte province, a police official said Friday. Chief Superintendent Abner Cabalquinto, chief of the Region 8 (Central Visayas) Police, identified the church leader as Felomino Catambis, 60, married, a resident of San Vicente Village in Mahaplag town, Leyte. Cabalquinto said Catambis was riding his Ramjet motorcycle when the two suspects, also riding a motorcycle, got close to him and shot him about 7:30 a.m. at Sitio Catoogan, Barangay Balocawe, Abuyog town. Catambis sustained six gunshot wounds, causing his instantaneous death, Cabalquinto said. Recovered from the ambush site were empty shells for a caliber 9-mm ammunition. Cabalquinto said local investigators are still trying to determine the motive of the incident while follow up operations are being conducted to identify and arrest the suspects. - GMANews.TV
