About 1,000 families affected in Kawit, Cavite fire


About 1,000 families were affected by the fire that hit a residential area in the town of Kawit in Cavite early Friday morning, according to the report of Corrine Catibayan on Unang Balita.

The fire in Barangay Samala in Kawit reached Task Force Alpha alarm level in which not less than 20 fire trucks responded to the emergency.

A teacher, Jobelle Lanzarrote, was able to save the equipment she needed for online teaching when the fire hit the area.

The Bureau of Fire Protection reported that more than 500 houses were damaged and about 1,000 families affected and will have to take temporary shelter in an evacuation center.

About 80 percent of the barangay is affected and cost of damage was pegged at P800,000. The BFP declared fire out a few minutes past 4 a.m. as an investigation is conducted to determine the cause of the fire. -- BAP, GMA News
