2 motorcycles with explosives intercepted in Agusan del Norte — PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said a police-military checkpoint intercepted two motorcycles loaded with explosives in Santiago, Agusan del Norte on Wednesday.

In a statement, the PNP said the motorcycles were also carrying  food supplies allegedly intended for the New People’s Army (NPA).

Citing reports from Police Regional Office 13, PNP chief Police General Debold Sinas identified the riders as Darnel Jaudian and Raymund Tanghal, both 24 years old from Tubay town.

Confiscated items from them were the following:

  • 15 meters of detonating cord
  • one pipe bomb-type improvised explosive device
  • two magazines for 5.56mm loaded with live ammunition
  • 33 rounds of caliber 5.56 live ammunition
  • several assorted goods and food supplies

The PNP said these items were supposed to be delivered to the members of the NPA’s Guerrilla Front 16, Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee under the command of Rolando Leyson Jr. aka Ka Edroy.

Caraga PNP Director Police Brigadier General Romeo Caramat said the items are “supplies for the 52nd NPA anniversary celebration on March 29 but were delayed due to tightened security measures and law enforcement operations regionwide.”

The riders together with the pieces of evidence were brought to Santiago Municipal Police Station as appropriate charges are being prepared for filing in court, the PNP said. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
