Palace declares non-working holiday in Cebu City for 500th year of Christianity celebration


The Cebu City government has announced that April 14, 2021 has been declared a non-working holiday in connection with the city's celebration of 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines.

In a post on social media, the basis of the announcement is Proclamation No. 1130 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

Medialdea, who issued the declaration in behalf of President Rodrigo Duterte, said "It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Cebu be given full opportunity to to celebrate and participate in the occasion with the appropriate ceremonies."

He underscored that the directive is subject to "community quarantine, social distancing, and other public health measures."

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella, meanwhile, said physical activities will be limited as he encourage the people to participate via the livestream feed of the Cebu City Public Information Office.

On Wednesday, there will be a reenactment of the first baptism in Plaza Sugbo near City Hall.-- BAP, GMA News
