Senior worries about grandson after he’s arrested for hitting her

An elderly woman who was repeatedly hit by her grandson in San Pablo, Laguna still could not help but worry about  him after he was arrested.

“Gustong-gusto po niya bumalik. Nagaalala siya doon sa kaniyang apo. Baka wala daw makain,” Edward Alcantara, City Social Welfare and Development Office admin officer, said in Jun Veneracion’s report on “24 Oras.”

The man was caught on video suddenly slapping his grandmother, who was helpless against him.

He also yelled and threatened her before hitting her once again. The grandmother’s cries could also be heard in the video.

Upon finding the viral video, the CSWDO immediately rescued the senior.

“Ang kaniyang makukuha ay kapag hindi naka drugs po ay mabait. hindi— inaalagaan siya,” Alcantara said.

The suspect is now in police custody.

Lieutenant Colonel Elmer Bao, the San Pablo police chief, said the suspect was arrested on Wednesday morning during a drug buy-bust operation.

Meanwhile, the man's mother said an argument often occurs between him and his grandmother when she urges him to change.

“Matagal na siya nag dro-droga. Eh, sinasabihan nga lagi. Siguro nitong nakaraan parang mga kaibigan na binibigyan na lang siya siguro,” she said.

The grandmother and her grandson have been living together for over a year.

Their neighbors say that they did not see him hurting her before the video was released. Despite this, they said they often heard the pair arguing.

The grandmother also asked social workers to put her grandson in a drug rehabilitation center. — Joahna Lei Casilao/BM, GMA News
