Lanao del Sur COVID-19 task force suspends Eid’l Fitr mass gatherings

The Lanao del Sur Provincial Inter-Agency TaskForce (PIATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases has issued a resolution suspending mass gatherings related to the celebration of Eid'l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan) to protect the public from the highly contagious coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The Provincial IATF, through Resolution No. 06 series 2021, directed the implementation of a temporary ban on congregational prayers that would be held outdoors and inside mosques.

The directive, which enjoins the people to gather privately inside their homes with immediate family members, was issued following a meeting with the Provincial Ulama Council and the Ulama Council of Marawi City.

The task force also encouraged Muslim constituents in the province to celebrate Eid'l Fitr without sacrificing the observance of the minimum health standards and protocols.

The celebration of Eid'l Fitr will be on Thursday, May 13, Muslim leaders said Tuesday night. 

In a Facebook post, the Bangsamoro Government said Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta' executive director and Grand Mufti of the Bangsamoro Sheikh Abu Huraira Udasan officially announced that the moon has not been sighted, signifying that Eid'l Fitr will be on Thursday. -- BAP, GMA News
