Dumaguete City mayor tests positive for COVID-19
Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo has tested positive for COVID-19.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Remollo said he took RT-PCR test as a requirement for attendance in the National Peace and Order Council meeting to be presided over by President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, May 24 , 2021, and which the city would host.
He received the results hours later, indicating he is positive for the virus
"I remain asymptomatic and have isolated myself," Remollo said.
The meeting with Duterte, however, will push through as scheduled, Remollo added, as well as the regular functions of the government.
"I fervently hope that this will serve as something to seriously reflect on even to those who are religious in observing the basic protocols," Remollo said.
The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday reported 3,083 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total nationwide tally to 1,179,812.
Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries climbed to 1,109,226 after 6,756 more patients defeated the respiratory illness. The death toll, on the other hand, increased to 19,951 with 38 new fatalities. —KBK, GMA News
