2 killed, 2 injured in explosion at DND facility in Bataan


Two personnel were killed while two others were wounded in an explosion that hit a primer composition mixing facility of Explosives Division at the Department of National Defense-Government Arsenal (GA) in Limay, Bataan Wednesday.

GA director Arnel Rafael Depakakibo identified the fatalities as Ricardo Solomon, 40, and Marvin Tatel, 38. The two others who were on duty at the time were Macreldo Rodriguez, 57, and Allan Wisco, 36.

Initial investigation showed the explosion occurred during the preparation of the priming composition for caliber .45 bullets.

Depakakibo said the GA is conducting a separate investigation on the circumstances surrounding the explosion, and will be submitting its full report to the Department of National Defense.

“Meanwhile, we are looking after the welfare of the families of the victims and ensuring that the two other affected personnel are receiving the appropriate medical attention,” he added.

Police Regional Office 3 director Police Brigadier General Valeriano also ordered a separate investigation on the cause of the incident.

Bataan Provincial Police Office director Police Colonel Joel Tampi said around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, an explosion was heard at Bldg 27 of the DND Government Arsenal.

A portion of the building and other machineries were damaged due to the explosion.—AOL, GMA News
