Stray dog sniffing leads to P2 million worth of marijuana in Kalinga
A stray dog on Tuesday helped authorities uncover more than P2 million worth of suspected marijuana at the side of the road in Tinglayan, Kalinga.
According to Victoria Tulad’s report on “24 Oras,” the Philippine National Police in Kalinga discovered 19 bricks of suspected marijuana hidden in two boxes.
“Ito po ay na-discover ng… isang construction worker na habang nag lalakad sa daan ay may nakita siyang dalawang brown box na napatungan nung ginagamit nila sa construction plywood at ito ay ikinakalkal ng aso,” Kalingan Provincial Police director Police Colonel Davy Vicente Limmong said.
(It was discovered by a construction worker that was walking down the road. He saw two brown boxes that were underneath the plywoods they used for construction and it was being dug through by the dog.)
The concerned citizen drove the dog away and immediately reported the incident to the police.
He said he saw no suspicious person in the area.
Meanwhile, police authorities are investigating who left the marijuana.
However, police believe that it is part of a modus of the suspects as dried fish also covered the boxes.
“Pwede ring binaba ito na parang allegedly nagtitinda or kwan ‘yung nag-deliver nito. So parang hindi halata. So ‘yun ‘yung siguro isang cover nila. So ang ginagawa is pag kinontakt sila, kinakausap, identify the place to be picked up,” he said.
(They could leave it there so that the delivery guy is allegedly selling something. So it’s not obvious. This could be their cover. So what they do is they contact, communicate, and identify the area for pick-up.)
The suspected marijuana has been turned over to the crime laboratory.
The Kalinga Provincial Police said it will increase checkpoints as this is not the first incident where contrabands were found on the side of the road. —Joahna Lei Casilao/NB, GMA News
