Masbate town vice mayor linked to predecessor's slay nabbed in CamNorte

Police have arrested Batuan, Masbate vice mayor Nelson Cambaya, one of the suspects in the 2019 killing of then-Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III, in Camarines Norte.

In a statement on Friday, the Police Regional Office 5 said authorities served the arrest warrant to Cambaya in Barangay Quinapagian in Mercedes on Thursday at 5 a.m.

Cambaya is facing cases of murder and frustrated murder stemming from the ambush that killed Yuson and wounded his companion Alberto Alforte IV while they were having breakfast in Manila in 2019.

Aside from Cambaya, the PRO5 said at least four more suspects are facing the same charges.

PRO5 chief Police Brigadier General Jonnel Estomo said they will continue the manhunt operations to arrest the other suspects.

Estomo thanked the Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN) for its coordination that led to the arrest of Cambaya.

In April, a Manila court issued arrest warrants for Cambaya and six other suspects including Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office board member Sandra Cam and her son Martin, over the killing of Yuson.

Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 42 Judge Dinnah Aguila-Topacio issued the arrest warrants in connection with the murder and frustrated murder cases recently filed by the Department of Justice.

Cam and others will not be allowed to post bail in the murder case, said the court. The judge set the bail at P200,000 for each of the accused in the frustrated murder case.

Aside from Cam, Martin Cam and Cambaya, other respondents in the case are Junel Gomez, Bradford Solis, Juanito De Luna, and Rigor dela Cruz.  —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
