P21.9-M worth of marijuana plants destroyed in Kalinga


Operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) have destroyed around P21.9 million worth of marijuana plants in Tinglayan, Kalinga.

According to the PNP, a total of 6,500 fully grown marijuana plants and 65,000 seedlings were destroyed by authorities in Barangay Buscalan, Loccong, and Butbut Proper from June 14 to June 16.

Of this, 5,000 marijuana plants worth P1 million were destroyed in Barangay Buscalan while four plantation sites that contained 34,000 marijuana plants worth P6.8 million were destroyed in Barangay Loccong.

Meanwhile, 57,000 plants and 65,000 seedlings worth P14.1 million were destroyed in Barangay Butbut Proper.

PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar lauded the PNP and PDEA agents.

“We are not just looking for marijuana plantations. We will track down all sources of illegal drugs and those behind them," he said in Filipino. 

Eleazar said the police will intensify marijuana eradication operations in the hinterlands, especially in the Cordillera Region. — Joahna Lei Casilao/BM, GMA News
