Police seize P7.8M worth of marijuana in Kalinga
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said P7.8 million worth of marijuana bricks in Kalinga were seized after a concerned citizen gave information to authorities.
In a statement, the PNP said several police units set up a checkpoint in Rizal town after the concerned citizen revealed a planned transportation of marijuana in the area.
According to the concerned citizen, three marijuana sacks were hidden under a concrete sewer at Sitio Anonang, Barangay Road in Liwan West.
Police discovered three abandoned sacks containing 53 pieces of dried marijuana leaves and stalks in brick form as well as 24 pieces of marijuana leaves and stalks in tubular form.
The items weighed 65.3 kilograms and had an estimated worth of P7,836,000, the PNP said.
PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar ordered police units to conduct checkpoint operations in the Cordillera region to prevent the transportation of illegal drugs and to arrest the drug couriers.
The incident is currently under investigation.
“Inaalam natin kung saan galing at kung kanino dadalhin ang marijuana (We are determining where the marijuana came from and who will receive it),” he said.
Eleazar encouraged the public to coordinate with the police to eradicate the illegal drugs trade. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
