10 houses in Tanza, Cavite swept to sea due to monsoon rains
Ten houses near the shoreline of Barangay Calibuyo in Tanza, Cavite were swept to the sea due to monsoon rains enhanced by Typhoon Fabian.
According to a report on "24 Oras" on Thursday, over 16 families were evacuated.
Among the displaced persons were Crisanta Arlay, a senior citizen, whose house was swept by big waves.
"Biglang gumuho at ang lalaki ng ahon dito (Our house suddenly collapsed and the waves were big)," she said.
She is now seeking shelter at her sibling's house. She added she will rebuild her home because it was her parents'.
"Pagtiyatiyagaan kong lagyan na lang ng kubo dahil ito'y pinaglaban ng aking mga magulang noong sila nakatira dito. Dito kami pinanganak," Arlay said.
(I guess I will just have to erect a hut here since my parents fought for this land. We were born here.)
Meanwhile, Barangay Amaya 5 called on the local government for relocation or installation of a breakwater.
"Ito'y habagat pa lang po, hindi pa bagyo. Taon-taon nararanasan namin ito. Sana mabigyan kami ng relokasyon para sa mga bahay dito o 'di kaya ay breakwater," barangay chairman Roderick Abad said.
The local government said it is already planning the relocation of the displaced individuals. -Ma. Angelica Garcia/MDM, GMA News
