To ECQ or not to ECQ? CALABARZON quarantine classification known Thursday, says Duque

Health Secretary Francisco Duque on Wednesday said there is no definite decision yet on whether Calabarzon will be placed under enhanced community quarantine.

Duque disclosed that there has been a recommendation to place the region under the strictest form of quarantine but he said this would still be discussed by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases.

The decision on this matter will be announced tomorrow, Thursday, according to Duque.

"There has been a recommendation... although the IATF will still meet tomorrow on this, whether to put CALABARZON under ECQ," Duque said during a House committee on health briefing.

"This is still for consideration of the IATF. We will find out tomorrow based on the latest data or COVID situationer for CALABARZON," he added.

Duque said that aside from the COVID-19 situation in the area, another thing that needs to be considered is the provision of giving assistance to affected families.

Earlier, the national government decided to place Metro Manila under ECQ from August 6 to 20 in light of the threat posed by the more infectious Delta coronavirus variant. —NB, GMA News
