Ambuklao, Binga dams reduce number of gates open

The number of gates open at the Ambuklao and Binga dams in Benguet were lessened on Monday, PAGASA said in an advisory.

At 6 a.m., only two gates were open at both Ambuklao Dam and Binga Dam, with a total gate opening of one meter each.

Ambuklao Dam had as much as eight gates open at four meters on August 3 as heavy rains from the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) continued to pour into parts of Luzon.

Binga Dam, meanwhile, had six gates open that day.

On Monday at 6 a.m., the reservoir water level (RWL) at Ambuklao Dam was at 751.17 meters, below the 752-meter normal high water level (NHWL).

Binga Dam, meanwhile, had a RWL of 574.27 meters, which is below the NHWL of 575 meters.

The Southwest Monsoon is expected to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands on Monday, PAGASA said.

The Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga on the other hand will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the trough or extension of a Low Pressure Area located east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

Isolated rain showers or thunderstorms meanwhile will be experienced in Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to the monsoon. —KG, GMA News
