Julian Ongpin claimed he and Bree Jonson did not have disagreement —PNP official

Julian Ongpin, the last companion of artist Bree Jonson in La Union before she was found lifeless on Sept. 18, claimed they did not have an argument that day, a police official said.

Police Regional Office 1 Regional Director Police Brigadier General Emmanuel Peralta said this was the comment given by Ongpin to cops, according to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday.

Ongpin, son of prominent businessman Roberto Ongpin, further said he was stopping Jonson from drinking wine at the time the CCTV footage showed both of them outside the room they were renting at a resort in La Union.

He also said he told Jonson that he had plans to leave the country, but his girlfriend tried to stop him.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday presented CCTV footage showing Jonson and Ongpin outside their rented room.

Citing the description written on the footage, PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar said on the wee hours of Sept. 18, Ongpin went outside the room and sat down on the stairs while drinking red wine.

Jonson then followed Ongpin and talked to him. She drank wine and went back inside "like they have an altercation with each other," Eleazar said.

“Ang nakalagay doon ‘like,’ like ang kanilang ano. So, well of course, kagaya nga ng sinabi natin wala naman tayong [conclusion]... Ito kasi kinuha lang yung bandang huli na magkasama sila," the national police chief said.

(What is written there is 'like'. So, well of course, as we said, we don't have [a conclusion.] This footage showed the last few moments they were together.)

GMA News reached out to Ongpin for comment but got no reply.

Jonson's mother Sally however is not convinced that Ongpin had no involvement in her daughter's death.

Sally also wants to see Ongpin held accountable for allegedly using illegal drugs.

"Panagutan niya ang kasalanan niya sa paggamit ng drugs and para matigil na niya, dahil matagal na siyang gumagamit ng drugs. Baka meron pa siyang masaktang panibagong tao, babae, at mayroon na namang panibagong ina na iiyak," she said.

(He should be held responsible for using drugs and to stop doing so, because he has been using drugs for a long time. There might be another person, woman, and another mother who will cry.)

Ongpin is facing drug complaints after police recovered cocaine in the resort room. However, he was temporarily released due to the prosecutor's order but a preliminary investigation into his case will still be launched.

The interment for Jonson will be held on Wednesday at the Davao Memorial Park. —KG, GMA News
