Over 1K students in Samar receive school supplies from GMA Kapuso Foundation

Over 1,000 students in the municipality of Jiabong in Samar received school supplies from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to a report on "24 Oras," Monday, among the beneficiaries were Dianne Parane's five children, who always lack materials whenever class opening arrives.

Parane said she and her husband's income of P300 is just enough for their food.

"Nalulungkot din po ako kasi yung ibang mga bata, excited na pumasok, may mga gamit na. 'Yung mga anak ko, wala pa [I get sad because other kids get excited, they have supplies. My kids have none]," she said.

At an early age, Parane's kids are already helping out in cutting grass and taking care of cows. The mother couldn't help but wish for a better life for their family.

"Hindi na ito pang habambuhay sana. Gusto ko na dumating 'yung araw na hindi na kayo mag-gagapas [I hope this isn't forever. One day, I hope you won’t have to cut grass]," she said.

"Gusto ko na maiba naman 'yung buhay nila [I want their lives to change]," she added.

Among her five kids is Aphia Dacuman, who likes to spend her time writing instead of playing. Even with her lack of supplies, she does her best to teach her younger siblings.

Aside from school supplies, the students of Jiabong also received hygiene kits and face masks through the foundation's "Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan" project.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation is still accepting donations through bank deposits, Pay Maya, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, Zalora, Mega Mart, and Globe Rewards.
