7 distressed fishermen rescued during Maring onslaught off Carles, Iloilo
Seven fishermen were rescued from a distressed fishing boat during the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Maring off Carles, Iloilo, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Wednesday.
In an incident report, the PCG said the seven fishermen departed from Estancia, Iloilo going to Sicogon Island and Bayas Island to conduct fishing ventures on Tuesday.
However, they encountered engine trouble due to strong winds and big waves brought by Maring.
The boat captain decided to drop their anchor and called the authorities for immediate assistance.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Coast Guard immediately deployed a response team to conduct search and rescue operations.
Authorities also towed the distressed fishing boat to the shoreline of Barangay San Fernando, Sicogon Island, Carles, Iloilo for needed repairs.
Meanwhile, the PCG reminded the fishermen not to venture into the sea during inclement weather.
The rescued fishermen were in good physical condition, according to the Coast Guard.—AOL, GMA News
