Early warning device at Tanza, Cavite bridge repair not early enough
The early warning device was not enough to alert motorists of an ongoing repair at the Tanza bridge following an accident which led to one death.
At around 11 p.m. on Sunday, two vehicles fell off Obispo Bridge in Antero Soriano Highway, Tanza Cavite.
A report by Jonathan Andal over "24 Oras" quoted one of those who witnessed the accident, saying the warning sign was not immediately noticed by the passing vehicle.
"Dapat ang sign nila nakikita ng tao, ang problema ang sign hindi nakikita ng tao, (The sign was not immediately seen by the people.)," Antonio Vale said.
Another witness, Jonathan Israel, said there were also minimal lights in the repair area.
For their part, Tutuy Sanariz of Tanza Municipal Administration said they already put up solar lights in the area while the Department of Public Works and Highways established additional signages.
DPWH Engineer Albert Daguro said they placed the necessary equipment to block the entry to the bridge while it is being repaired.
According to the report, early warning signs must be placed 100 meters away from the bridge but the warning sign at Obispo Bridge was placed near the hole of the bridge.
Nonetheless, the Tanza government said they are coordinating with the contractor to put more lights and signages at Obispo bridge.
GMA News has yet to receive a reply from contractors who are reaching out to the bereaved family.
