Tacloban suspends vaccination, classes, work due to foul weather

Due to continuous rains, the Tacloban City government on Thursday suspended its COVID-19 vaccination drive, as well as classes and work schedules.

In a radio interview, Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez said heavy rain has been pouring for 12 hours already.

“Kaya we temporarily suspended yung pagbabakuna muna dahil masyadong malakas yung ulan. We suspended work also at saka yung klase dito,” he said.

(So we temporarily suspended the vaccination because the rain was too heavy. We also suspended the work and classes here.)

Romualdez also noted that they are protecting their residents, especially children, from pneumonia, which he said is common in the city during December due to the cold weather.

Some low-lying areas are already experiencing flooding, Romualdez said, addiing the city government is already preparing for possible flooding and landslides due to the downpour.

Nearly 80% of the target population in Tacloban City have been vaccinated against COVID-19, according to Romualdez. At present, the city has less than 50 active cases. —KBK, GMA News
