1 dead, 1 missing in Albay landslide
At least one person was reported dead while a fisherman was reported missing as a landslide hit Albay province in Bicol, Visayas-based Bombo Radyo reported Wednesday afternoon. The landslide occurred in Malilipot town, even as at least 12 families from nearby Santo Domingo town were evacuated. Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council head Cedric Daep identified the fatality as Domingo Binlayo Sr, a resident of Sitio Datag in Sta. Teresa village in Malilipot, Albay. Local officials in Malilipot town are preparing to evacuate the affected families and place the town in a state of calamity. Daep also cited information reaching the PDCC that many bridges in Daraga town were damaged because of overflowing rivers. At least four villages near Mayon Volcano were also isolated, including Alcala, Matnog, Budiao and Kilicao in Daraga. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the tail-end of a cold front will continue to affect Eastern and Southern Luzon. "Eastern and Southern Luzon and Visayas will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers becoming widespread rains over Bicol region and Northern Visayas, which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said in its 5 p.m. advisory. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate blowing from the east and northeast with slight to moderate seas. - GMANews.TV
