No cash, no food: Families stuck in vehicles in Southern Leyte ports waiting to sail
Several families have remained stranded in ports in Southern Leyte due to Typhoon Odette.
According to a report by Cedric Castillo on "24 Oras" on Monday, many vehicles outside a port in Liloan are waiting to sail to Surigao.
A family from Cavite has been on the road for a week and has no more cash and food left.
"Mga biskwit lang (ang kinakain namin). As in walang cash. Naiiyak ako kasi walang ma-withdraw-an," the mother said.
At least 1,000 houses were totally damaged in Liloan.
The local government called on the national government for help as they need more food, water, hygiene kits and medical supplies.
"Maraming nawalan ng bahay so ang need namin maski tent o trapal ba," the mayor said.
At least 58 people were reported dead, 199 were injured, and 18 were missing due to Typhoon Odette, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Monday.
The NDRRMC also said Odette could be considered the fiercest tropical cyclone to hit the country this year.—Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
