Southern Leyte folk to relatives: Buhay kami pero walang bahay
With still no electricity and lack of relief assistance, some residents in Southern Leyte, which is hardest-hit by Typhoon Odette, asked help from their relatives.
A report by Jonathan Andal over "24 Oras" quoted one of the residents appealing for help from her loved ones in Pampanga after their house was reduced to rubble.
"Mga kamag-anak sa Pampanga, 'wag kayong maalala kami'y ligtas, kaso wala kaming matitirhan," she said.
(To my relatives in Pampanga, don't worry I am safe but we don't have a home anymore.)
"Kung may maitutulong kayo sa amin. Manghihingi kami ng kaunting tulong," she also begged.
(If you can help us, please do.)
A minor also reported the fate of their house to his mother, who is working overseas.
"Ma, 'wag kang mag-alala buhay pa kami dito kaso wala kaming bahay," the teenage boy said.
(Mom, don't worry we are still alive but our house is gone.)
Another resident was also begging for more food assistance after her husband died in Odette's wrath.
The impact of the typhoon got more difficult to residents as Odette made landfall in the area at night.
Authorities already distributed food aid, tents and other basic needs for 6,400 typhoon-hit residents.
However, local authorities in Southern Leyte said the food assistance is still not enough as it is only good for five to six days.
