Surigao del Sur residents with homes damaged by Odette to get P10K to P20K —gov

Residents whose homes were damaged during the onslaught of Typhoon Odette will receive P10,000 to P20,000 cash assistance in Surigao del Sur, Governor Alexander Pimentel said on Tuesday.

The amount of cash assistance will depend on the damage of the houses, Pimentel said at the Laging Handa public briefing.

“Ina-access natin iyan. Binibigyan namin iyan nang depende sa damage. Binibigyan namin ng P10,000 to P20,000 ,” he said.

(We are accessing that. We will give an amount depending on the damage. We give them P10,000 to P20,000.)

Only 12 homes were totally damaged while 235 were partially damaged, the governor said.

Pimentel said he called for a special session in the provincial government to discuss the possible declaration of a state of calamity.

More than P140,000 or 45,000 families were affected by Odette. Some of them were staying in 1,090 evacuation centers.

One person was reported injured due to the typhoon in the province, according to Pimentel.

A total 156 people were reported dead, 37 were missing, and 275 were injured due to the onslaught of Typhoon Odette, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Tuesday. —KG, GMA News
