Cebu residents climb trees, mountains to get phone signal
Cebu residents have turned creative —climbing trees and scaling mountains —to get communication signals as power supply has yet to be restored in parts of the province after Typhoon Odette's battering, according to Lou-Anne Mae Rondina’s GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak report on Wednesday.
Apart from lack of electricity and water supply, signals for communication have been difficult for the residents in Barangay Perrelos in Carcar City.
Several residents also walked kilometers up to the mountains to receive signals and contact their loved ones.
Some also braved walking along the bridge connecting Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City to be able to make a call.
In Lapu-Lapu City, residents flocked to the free charging stations provided by the local government.
In Talisay City, police officers also monitored gasoline stations as residents lined up, which reached nearly one kilometer.
The Department of Energy (DOE) Region 7 assured enough supply of petroleum in the Visayas region.
Meanwhile, the Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) said restoration of the supply of power in a large portion of Cebu has been hampered by the heavy damage sustained by distribution facilities during the typhoon's onslaught.—Richa Noriega/LDF, GMA News
