Some Siargao residents leave island to ask for help
Some residents of Siargao left the paradise island for Manila following the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.
According to Raffy Tima's report on "24 Oras" on Wednesday, some of the residents said they went to Manila to ask for help.
Kokoy Davis, who had been living in Siargao for three years, was downhearted.
"Nakakalungkot... Walang kuryente, communication and scrapping ang mga tao sa livelihood," he said.
Bohol, Siargao, Surigao del Norte and the Dinagat Islands will remain without electricity over Christmas, agencies tasked to restore power in areas affected by Typhoon Odette said on Tuesday.
Energy spokesperson Felix Fuentebella earlier said it would be “challenging” for power to be restored in the four areas by the end of the year.
Officials said that restoration efforts had been hampered due to difficulties in transportation and road blockages as passageways have also been hit by the typhoon.
Odette left the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday afternoon, after causing “total devastation” in areas under its path. —NB, GMA News
