Omicron case identified in Iloilo City —Treñas
Iloilo City has identified one case of the Omicron variant in the metropolis, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said Wednesday.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Treñas said the Omicron case was a returning male overseas Filipino worker from Kenya, aged 46. He was reported to have tested positive for COVID-19 last December 27, 2021.
He is an unvaccinated patient from the district of Arevalo with no comorbidities.
Citing reports, Treñas said the OFW underwent hotel quarantine and was set to disembark in Kenya on December 12. He tested negative for COVID-19 based on the RT-PCR test conducted two days later on December 14.
He then arrived in Cebu on December 16, and underwent another hotel quarantine.
The individual again tested negative for COVID-19 via RT-PCR test conducted on December 19 while continuing his quarantine.
He then traveled from Cebu to Iloilo on December 24 then underwent home quarantine.
However, he tested positive for COVID-19 on December 27, but allegedly had no close contacts.
"Let us all stay vigilant! Please be safe," Treñas said in a message.
