Injured Philippine eagle rescued in Lanao del Sur

A Philippine Eagle rescued by a concerned citizen in Lanao del Sur was christened with a name honoring the women who fought for the Bangsamoro cause.

Dubbed "Bangsa Bae," the eagle has a wingspan of 51 centimeters and a weight of five kilograms in its right wing based on initial observation reports.

Hadji Solaiman Olama, who found Bangsa Bae, informed authorities of the discovery as the female eagle was injured and needed medical treatment.

"It was the first time that we found and rescued an injured Philippine Eagle which signifies the Bangsamoro region's vast environment and natural resources," said environment officer Benjamin Alangca.

Bangsa Bae had a surgical operation to treat its injured right wing, which contracted a bacterial infection that was spreading beyond the injured area.

The eagle was rescued on February 9 and turned over to the Philippine Eagle Foundation on February 12 for further treatment.
