Surigao del Sur vice governor Librado Navarro, wife arrested for estafa

Surigao del Sur Vice Governor Librado Navarro and his wife Maylene were arrested by the authorities on Thursday night on estafa charges in connection with an investment scheme.

Personnel of the Bislig City Police arrested the couple in Barangay Maharlika, Bislig City at 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

This came after their arrest was ordered by a trial court in Medina, Misamis Oriental, for two counts of estafa with no bail set.

Maylene, who reportedly resigned as a Sangguniang Bayan member in the municipality of Talisayan in Misamis Oriental, was allegedly involved in an investment scheme in Talisayan.

“There is no such thing as groups or companies guaranteeing high returns on investment in a short period. PNP (Philippine National Police) Caraga has always warned our citizens about investment scams, advising them not to be enticed and never become involved,” Caraga Police chief Police Brigadier General Romeo Caramat Jr. said in a statement.

“Caraga police will pursue and apprehend perpetrators regardless of your title, as long as you have culpability in our law,” he added.

The couple are being held at the provincial police station, according to Police Colonel Joseph Boquiren, the provincial director of Surigao del Sur. — VBL, GMA News
