Municipal officers visit dogs allegedly maltreated in Camarines Sur
Officers of the Municipal Agriculturist Office (MAO) visited the three dogs living in allegedly dire condition in a junk yard in Pili, Camarines Sur.
According to a report in “24-oras”, a certain Celia shared a video with "Sumbangan ng Bayan."
Celia said the dogs are not being fed since their owner is always not around. She added that the dogs are kept in a broken-down, smelly and dirty cage.
Following this, members of MAO went to Josephine Motañez, the owner of the junk shop where the dogs are kept.
With the permission of the owner, the agricultural office and representatives from the barangay inspected the area.
Montañez admitted she had neglected the dogs after her husband died. However, she vowed to still take care of them.
“’Yung kulungan ay marumi at saka medyo matagal na yata ‘yung pagkain na binigay sa aso. Mainit rin po ang lugar at wala pong tubig. Dalawang aso na lang po yun. Yung dalawa daw po namatay na raw po,” Arvin Salvino, Acting Munincipal Agriculturist, said.
(The cage is filthy and the food given to the dogs is stale. The area is very warm and there is no water supply. Two dogs are left at the cage. The other two have died.)
“Kung sakaling wala talaga, at hindi sila tumupad sa usapan ay ipapakuha ko na po,” he added.
(If the owner will not comply with the conditions agreed upon, we will confiscate the dogs.)
Veterinarians and municipal personnel said they will monitor the area to ensure that the dogs will be given proper care in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act. -- Mel Matthew Doctor/BAP, GMA News
