Suspect nabbed after shooting to death arresting cop in Laguna

Authorities nabbed a suspect in Laguna for allegedly attempting to escape after gunning down a policeman who tried to arrest him over illegal cockfighting or "tupada".

According to a report in 24 Oras, suspect Ronilo Olivarez Rubel climbed a mountainous terrain Sunday evening in an attempt to leave the town of Paete after allegedly shooting Police Chief Master Sergeant Gilbert Robles Briz.

An earlier CCTV footage showed Briz arresting Rubel in the town of Pangil while carrying a rooster which will serve as his evidence for the suspect's case. Rubel, however, suddenly wrestled against the cop before snatching his gun and shooting him.

The suspect is now facing charges for murder and illegal gambling.

GMA News tried to seek his comment but he refused. The local police of Pangil, Laguna also did not give a comment.—Sundy Mae Locus/LDF, GMA News
