Cateel, Davao Oriental declares state of calamity due to Agaton
The Sangguniang Bayan of Cateel on Friday declared a state of calamity in the Davao Oriental municipality due to the heavy flooding brought by Tropical Depression Agaton.
Based on Resolution No. 14-2022, the municipality of Cateel was placed under a state of calamity due to extensive and heavy damage to its agricultural crops, infrastructure, and the massive evacuation of affected families.
“The declaration of the municipality under the state of calamity is appropriate and proper in order for the municipal government to utilize the 5% calamity fund to extend relief assistance to affected families and to repair/rehabilitate damaged infrastructures,” the resolution read.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remained in effect over Eastern Samar in the Visayas; and the Dinagat Islands, Siargao, and Bucas Grande Islands in Mindanao on Saturday afternoon due to Tropical Depression Agaton, PAGASA said in its 2 p.m. bulletin.
These areas have either strong winds currently prevailing, or may expect these winds within the next 36 hours. — DVM, GMA News
