NDRRMC: 3 reported dead, 1 missing, 2 injured due to Agaton


The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday said the number of reported dead due to Tropical Depression Agaton has climbed from one to three.

In its 3 p.m. report, the NDRRMC added that one was reported missing, and two were confirmed injured. These reports in Davao Region are still for validation, it added.

Two of the fatalities and the missing person were reported in Monkayo, Davao de Oro, while the other fatality was in Cateel, Davao Oriental.

Three fatalities were earlier reported in Basay, Negros Oriental but these are currently not in NDRRMC's report.

A total of 136,390 people or 86,515 families were affected by Agaton in 201 barangays in Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro.

The NDRRMC said 52 houses were damaged—49 partially and three totally—in Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.

Also, a total of P874,000 worth of damage in agriculture were also reported in Soccsksargen and Bangsamoro, according to the NDRRMC.

The NDRRMC said 195 flooding incidents, 13 landslides, six flash floods, and an overflowing river were reported due to Agaton.

At least 16 roads and four bridges were not passable.

According to NDRRMC, a total of 15 cities and municipalities experienced power interruption, of which, four have been restored.

Two areas also experienced water supply interruptions.

A total of 38 ports have suspended trips or have implemented suspension of operations. A total of 2362 passengers, 1180 rolling cargoes, six vessels, and a motor banca were stranded in some affected regions.

A total of 78 classes and 56 work schedules have been suspended due to Agaton.

One area declared a state of calamity due to Agaton, the NDRRMC said. On Sunday, Mayor Mike Rama declared a state of calamity in Cebu City due to persistent heavy rainfall.

As of 1 p.m., state weather bureau PAGASA said the center of Agaton was estimated at 11.1°N, 125.2°E over the coastal waters of Marabut, Samar.

It has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 60 km/h, and central pressure of 1002 hPa.
