Suspect in attempted rape of PWD lady in Cavite found dead
The suspect in the attempted rape of a lady with a disability (PWD) was found dead in Barangay Pasong Buaya in Imus, Cavite on April 5.
According to Emil Sumangil’s report on 24 Oras on Tuesday, three tanods of Barangay Salitran III in Dasmariñas, Cavite were the suspects in the killing.
Philippine National Police Imus Cavite identified one of the suspects as 37-year-old Jovi Monis.
Based on the investigation, the body of the victim was found tied up with a gunshot wound to the face.
CCTV footage allegedly showed a Barangay Salitran III vehicle drive up to the crime scene.
“Anong uniform ninyo, anong kulay ng uniform ninyo every Monday. So, iyon ang unang naging question ko. So sabi nila sa akin kulay green sir. So at least tumugma na. Next question ko sino-sino na ang mga companions,” Imus chief of police Lt. Col. Jun Alamo said.
(I asked them, what is the color of your uniform every Monday? That was my first question. So, they said that it was the color green. So at least it already matched. My next question, who are your companions?)
Monis refused to comment on the matter, while the two other barangay tanods denied killing anyone.
However, the two are now in police custody and would testify against Monis.
“Pinag-drive po ako,” one of the barangay tanods said. “Hindi ko naman alam na magkakaganon. Ang akala ko po ay tatakutin lang, eh nanlalaban po ‘yung tao, hindi ko naman po alam na ganun,” the other one added.
(I was asked to drive the vehicle. I didn’t know that would happen. I thought we would just scare him, but he fought back, I didn’t know that this would happen.)
Meanwhile, Alamo stressed “Huwag natin ilagay ang batas sa ating kamay. Mayroon po tayong hustisya na para po gumanap niyan.”
(We must not take the law into our own hands. We have a justice system for these matters.)
